The Great John Singleton Has Passed Away

April 30, 2019

Everyone should thank John Singleton for the way he paved for African-American film makers. He gave us movies that we can relate too but most of all learn from. John singleton passed away on Monday, April 29 2019 after suffering from a stroke on April 17. He was 51 years old.

John touched so many people in a way that many can’t. He gave most of the African-American actors that we know now, a chance to become who they are today. Singleton was the writer/director of a plethora of movies and tv series. His films included Boyz N The Hood, Baby Boy, Shaft, Poetic Justice and Four Brothers just to name a few. He was just 23 years old when he wrote and directed “Boyz N The Hood”. Singleton became the first African American and youngest person to ever receive an Oscar nomination for best director.

He has left an imprint on the hearts of those he touched. Celebrities took it to social media to express their feelings.

"It's cool for me because I'm a director, but I'm also a teacher. I'm a lover of cinema, and I love working with people who are hungry and have the energy to really do better work"

John Singleton
