What started as a pop-up museum has turned into one of Atlanta's hottest tourist Attractions. The Trap Music Museum opened in October 2018 and has been on a roll since then. It is curated by T.I. and co- curated by Antwanette McLaughlin. The museum plays homage to trap music, rappers, and the culture. It is also managed by Krystal Garner, T.I.'s The Grand Hustle winner.
When you first walk in , you are in a corner store. It was represented perfectly from the spaghetti sauce to the backwoods. To be honest if you didn’t know better, you would try to buy something. The next room is Granma Mamie's living room. You see a couch covered with plastic, drug paraphernalia, photos of Cardi B, Gucci, T.I. and much more. This living room gave visitors the real experience. Granma Mamie sat on the couch and interacted with each person that came through the door. I can’t lie she was definitely one of my favorite parts!
The rooms gave everyone a real life feel for a trap house. There was a kitchen, gun closet, music studio and even a jail cell. T.I.’s gun closet held photos of him, business suits and a plethora of different guns. Though deemed professional because of the business suits, it still had a trap feel because of the guns. The jail cell had signatures, photos, a bible and letters on the walls. It’s sad because the cell was so small and felt cold. You start to understand what these rappers went through while sitting in jail cells. The whole vibe was cold and uncomfortable but educating.
In the beginning of the museum there is a poster with mugshots of rap artist. The poster says “We did it for Trap Musik”. You can see T.I., Offset, Meek Mill, Lil Boosie, Gucci Mane and more. 2 Chainz’s Pink Trap car was also featured in this museum. There was a line to take the perfect photo with the pink car due to the popularity. For those 21 and over, there is a bar inside so you can get lit and walk around.
The museum also had an “Escape the Trap” room which seemed to be a hit! You can hear people’s excitement when they escaped the trap room. As the BET awards approaches us, if you are in LA look out for the pop- up Lil Trap House. It will feature a tribute to Nipsey Hussle along with mini rooms from the Trap Music Museum in Atlanta. If you are thinking about visiting the Trap Music Museum, I highly suggest it!
