Roc Nations very own Jay- Z and his artist Yo Gotti are on a mission to improve prison conditions in Mississippi. The two are threatening to sue the state of Mississippi with a civil rights lawsuit over the recent violence and living conditions within state prisons ( WREG).

Recent violence within the Mississippi state prisons have left five inmates dead. A letter was sent to Governor Phil Bryant and the Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Pelicia Hall. The letter addresses the inhumane condition of the prisons, violence, shortage of staff and the frequent amount of lockdowns.

In a statement, Yo Gotti said, “Phil Bryant, Mississippi’s outgoing governor, on Monday blamed gangs operating inside the prison system, saying prisons are difficult to manage “under the best of circumstances.” Bryant spoke specifically about the infamous Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman.”

Roc Nation’s lawyer, Alex Apiro, has signed the letter on behalf of Roc Nation. He is said to have written the letter in collaboration with Jay-Z and Yo Gotti.

Gov. Phil Bryant and Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Pelicia Hall have yet to respond.
