The Reason Behind The Petition To Change The NBA Logo

Following the sudden death of Kobe Bryant this past Sunday, fans around the world have been honoring his memory. Basketball games have been canceled, murals have been painted, and other versions of tributes have been paid.

The latest and probably the most notable one is the petition that has been circling the internet that urges the NBA to change their logo to represent Kobe Bryant.

The petition on change.org was created shortly after Bryant’s untimely passing by a user by the name of Nick M.

As a reasoning for the petition creator, Nick M., wrote:

“With the untimely and unexpected passing of the great Kobe Bryant please sign this petition in an attempt to immortalize him forever as the new NBA Logo.”

Seemingly millions share his dream of immortalizing Bryant.

Since the launch of the petition approximately 48 hours ago, almost 2 million individuals have signed and supported passing the halfway mark for the petition’s goal of 3 million signatures.

There is no word yet on whether or not the NBA will make the change to their almost 50-year-old logo. But fans of the game and Kobe are hoping the organization will pay tribute to the legend, Kobe Bryant, and the legacy he left behind.

So much so that fans have been sharing their own mockups of what they believe the new NBA logo depicting Kobe Bryant should look like.

The current logo is a representation of NBA legend and Hall of Famer Jerry West. In the past, West has expressed his desire for the NBA to change the logo but it is not yet known if he too has signed the petition.

In an official statement released on the Twitter account for the LA Clippers West expresses his grief for Kobe and Gianna Bryant stating that “Kobe’s legacy will live forever.”
