Celebrities and The Media Weigh In on Jussie Smollett's Indictment

News broke earlier this week that the ‘Empire’ star, Jussie Smollett was indicted on six counts of disorderly conduct.
The indictment comes almost a year after Smollett's alleged attack that authorities later concluded was staged by the actor himself.
Unlike the original incident, this story is not receiving as much news coverage. But some celebrities are still weighing in. Day time television host, Wendy Williams made a statement suggesting that Smollett’s career may be over. Other public figures have taken to social media to express their agreement with the actions that have been taken against Smollett.
Whether Williams opinion is accurate or not is still up to debate. Could Smollett still have a chance at regaining his freedom? Original charges pertaining to what was believed to be his criminal involvement in his own attack were dismissed almost a year ago in March of 2019. One reason for the dismissal was lack of evidence of Smollette’s wrongdoing. This fact is also true of the current investigation, as his attorney Tina Gladian pointed out in a statement she made Tuesday.
In her statement Gladian questioned the integrity of the investigation due to lack of evidence, witnesses, and lead investigators that this investigation shares with the previous case.
Like Williams, many followers of the case believe that it will be a waste of time and resources for the Chicago Police Department. Others have called the pursuit of charges against Smollett, almost a year after the original charges were dismissed, pure racism.
Some people feel as if the pursuit of charges are long over due and it’s time Smollett learns his lesson.
