The Unexpected Tragic Loss of New York's Rising Artist, Pop Smoke

February 19, 2020

Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke was shot and killed in a Hollywood Hills home on February 19, 2020, at the young age of 20. This young rapper was just in the beginning phase of stardom.

Bashar Jackson also known as Pop Smoke was born July 20, 1999 in Brooklyn, New York. He was from Canarsie, Brooklyn which may be known as the “Flossy” to some of us. Pop was famous for bringing the UK Drill beat to the New York hip hop streets. His breakthrough single, “Welcome to the Party” put him on the map because it was something New York people weren’t used too. The UK drill beat separated this hit song and put it at the top of the charts.

Once you hear that deep raspy voice say,

Said I'm never lackin', always pistol packing

With them automatics, we gon' send him to heaven

Wait, wait, wait, wait, ayy, ayy, woo (Aw, shit), huh

Oh, you feelin' sturdy, huh? (You feelin' sturdy, man)

Shake somethin'

Shake it, shake it, shake it

...you already know your night is going to be lit.

July 2019, Pop Smoke dropped his debut mixtape ‘Meet the Woo’. The mixtape had hits that included “Welcome to the Party” and “Meet the Woo” along with other new tracks. He recently celebrated his release of “Meet The Woo, V2” with an album release party. All of New York came together to celebrate his accomplishments within the Hip Hop music scene. “Meet The Woo, V2” has spent one week on the charts and is #7 on Billboard’s 200 list. Though he was younger and just getting started Hip Hop legends supported him and his music. You would see so many artist in the studio with him on his social media accounts. Pop Smoke was set to go on tour on from March 2 to July 4 starting in Washington, DC and ending in Dublin, Ireland.

He was taken from us at the young age of 20. Our condolences and prayers go out to the family and friends of Pop Smoke during this hard time. We will continue to keep his legacy alive.

Rest In Peace Pop Smoke
