How To Pick The Fragrance That Is Best For You

February 25, 2020

One of the main things that helps us find other people attractive is their scent. It is the same thing that attracts people to us and reminds us of a time or place we once experienced.

“An odor has no personal significance until it becomes connected to something that has meaning”, which was said in an article by Psychology Today. “The smell savvy that helps you perform better on a test or cope more effectively with pain also helps you shape the impression you make on others” the article continued.

Like your reputation, your fragrance precedes you.

If you’re a pro at choosing fragrances or new to the game we have some advice that may help you smell good and be memorable.

To start your journey, we recommend taking a day to get out of the house and actually go scent shopping. For those of you that are privy to online shopping this may be difficult, but it will be worth it. When you go shopping try not to wear scents.

Step 1: Describe yourself (or the person you are shopping for).

This is important, before you can purchase a scent you have to be able to describe yourself or at least describe how you want people to remember you based off of your scent. This will help you narrow down the type of scents to look at, especially if you describe yourself to a professional at the store that specializes in selecting scents.

Step 2:  Define your price range.

It is easy to find a scent that you like. But you can face difficulties when you don't identify how much you are willing to spend on a scent. This can also end up wasting your time and the time of the person that may be assisting you.

Step 3:  Determine the concentration you want.

The concentration determines how long the scent will last. The four different concentrations from lowest to highest are Eau de cologne, Eau de toilette, Eau de Perfume, and Parfum (Perfume).

Step 4:  Test your scents.

Test them on the pieces of paper the store offers. Wait about 20 to 30 seconds after you spray the scent to smell it. Make sure to write down which scent is which on the paper, so you can find it again later.

Online scent sampling business such as ScentBird is a good way to learn new scents. But to find the one that is perfect for you, don't forget you may have to leave the house!
