Jay Z Speaks On NFL 'Sell Out' Accusations on Jay Electronica's Song 'Flux Capacitor

Jay Z has earned his title as a mogul in the entertainment industry. As one of hip-hops most influential rappers and the founder of the lucrative record label Roc Nation, Hov is no stranger to the spotlight or controversy.

Jay Z recently addressed some of the controversy surrounding him on his verse in a new Jay Electronica song 'Flux Capacitor'. One of Jay Z’s returning controversies are claims that he sold out to the NFL, when Roc Nation and the NFL created a campaign for entertainment and social-awareness. The ‘sell-out’ accusations came after his public criticism of the NFL over their treatment of Colin Kaepernick.

Colin Kaepernick is a former San Francisco 49er who was suspended indefinitely because of his kneeling during the national anthem despite the NFL creating a ban that forbids players to do anything but stand during the anthem.

In ‘Flux Capacitor’ Jay Z says:

“Why would I sell out? I’m already rich, don’t make no sense/

Got more money than Goodell, a whole NFL bench/

Did it one-handed like Odell, handcuffed to a jail/

I would’ve stayed on the sideline if they could’ve tackled that sh— themselves.”

Jay Z, one of many who supported Kaepernick, briefly addressed the allegations in August 2020 after the announcement of his campaign and said “There’s two parts of protest: the protest, and then there’s a company or individual saying ‘I hear you, what do we do next?”
