2020 Tokyo Olympics Have Been Rescheduled For 2021

As we all know by now the 2020 Tokyo Olympics have been rescheduled. The Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony has been rescheduled for July 23, 2021. Athletes and observers now have to wait a year and two months for the big game. The games were scheduled to open on July 24, 2020 and close on August 9, 2020.

There was word going around that the olympics would be rescheduled for the spring. With the continuous COVID-19 updates it was decided to move the event to 2021.

The Paralympics have also been rescheduled for August 24, 2021 through September 5, 2021.

According to ESPN, "These new dates give the health authorities and all involved in the organization of the Games the maximum time to deal with the constantly changing landscape and the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic," the IOC said. "The new dates ... also have the added benefit that any disruption that the postponement will cause to the international sports calendar can be kept to a minimum, in the interests of the athletes and the IFs."

NBCUniversal, which is the parent company of NBC News, has paid $4.4 billion for U.S. media rights to the four Olympics from 2014 to 2020.

They are being affected tremendously by the global pandemic.
