UFC 249 Officially Postponed

Earlier this week it was announced that UFC president, Dana White, was in the process of getting a private island to hold UFC weekly fights. The decision was made due to the COVID-19 pandemic causing shutdowns and putting a stop to the production of many events and shows.

In an interview with ESPN, White stated he secured an island in the U.S. for approximately two months. The goal of the private island was for all fighters, including international fighters that could not enter the U.S. due to travel restrictions, to have the opportunity to participate in UFC events. It is not clear if any restriction were made for fighters located outside of the U.S. once the island was officially secured.

With UFC 249 around the corner, fans and UFC fighters were hopeful of the event taking place. However, that is no longer the case.

The event, expected to take place on April 18, has officially been postponed along with all other UFC events.

In an interview with ESPN, White stated that he was asked to not go through with hosting the event by people at the highest level of Disney and ESPN. White complied with the request due the strong relationships he has with both companies.

All suspensions of UFC events are indefinite.
