Gabrielle Union Speaks About Her Time As An 'AGT' Judge

Our favorite actress Gabrielle Union was once an judge on America’s Got Talent. The former judge was let go just after one season on the show. Union departed the long-running talent competition in controversial fashion last November after one season. During her time on AGT, she reportedly had voiced concerns about a “toxic” culture on the show, including her hairstyle choices being called “too black” according to Deadline.

In a recent interview with Variety Magazine, Union spoke about the different concerns she mentioned to producers on AGT and how no one took action. For example, Simon Cowell smoking on set and causing Union to develop bronchitis. The producers decided to launch an investigation based upon her claims.

After the release of Union's comments in Variety, NBC and the producers of "America's Got Talent" (Fremantle and Syco Entertainment) released a joint statement on Wednesday that their investigation "demonstrated an overall culture of diversity," but "also highlighted some areas in which reporting processes could be improved."

During the interview, Union also addressed what she called a racist joke by comedian and guest judge Jay Leno. "I gasped. I froze," she said. "Other things had already happened, but at this point, it was so wildly racist.” According to NBC News.
