Whether you feel like you’re too old for superheroes or you’re the biggest DC fan ever, don't fail to recognize the power of black girl magic. Leslie is the first black actress to play ‘Batwoman’ on a live-action TV or film production.
Leslie will be joining the DC-universe this post-crisis season and well, we’re here for it.
“I am extremely proud to be the first Black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on television, and as a bisexual woman, I am honored to join this groundbreaking show which has been such a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community,” Leslie said.
Leslie is taking on the mantle from her predecessor, Ruby Rose, who was the star of The CW’s show Batwoman for the first season. Leslie will not be replacing Rose’s character, Kate Kane, rather Leslie will be joining the show as a new character, Ryan Wilder.
In an interview showrunner Caroline Dries denied rumors that Rose’s character will be killed off of the show and stated that her character will simply disappear. "I love Kate Kane — she's the reason I wanted to do the show. We'll never erase her … In fact, her disappearance will be one of the mysteries of season two.” Dries stated.
Several reports have stated that Javicia Leslie’s character, Ryan Wilder is nothing like Kate Kane, Ruby Rose’s character. Wilder is said to be nothing like the stereo-typical All-American hero.
The second season of Batwoman is set to air in 2021.
