On Thursday, the Supreme Court ruled that President Donald Trump could not block the release of his financial records.
New York prosecutors have been attempting to obtain Trump’s financial records as evidence in a criminal investigation. Trump is being investigated for paying two women that allege they had an affair with him hush-money.
In another investigation Trump Organization’s accounting firm along with two banks’ financial records are being obtained so that House Democrats can determine if any foreign power has influenced him over the years. One of the foreign powers being looked at is Russia, who was rumored to have interfered in Trump’s 2016 campaign.
Although the Manhattan DA may access Trump’s financial records the court also ordered that both of the cases be sent to a lower court to limit the amount of information that can be obtained, additionally Congress may not have access to Trump’s financial record just yet.
In true Trump fashion, he took to Twitter to express his discontent, stating that the ruling was “Not fair to this Presidency or Administration!”
In the past, Trump has stated that he believes that presidents should not have to undergo criminal investigations while in office.
