Hackers got a hold of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Bill Gates, Kanye West, Apple, and other Twitter accounts on Wednesday. The unknown hackers posted tweets that seemed to prompt bitcoin scams.
Bill Gates Tweet said “ I am doubling all payments sent to my BTC address for the next 30 minutes. You send $1,000 and I send you back $2,000.”
Twitter Support responded to the hacking issues with a tweet stating, “We are aware of a security incident impacting accounts on Twitter. We are investigating and taking steps to fix it. We will update everyone shortly.” The company disabled verified accounts which also included Donald Trump’s even though he was not impacted. Since Trump wasn’t able to tweet he turned to his Facebook account in the mean time.
Though the verified accounts were reactivated around 8.30 p.m., hackers did make some money. According to Politico, the hackers received more than $118,000 from 358 transactions, which is around $330 per victim.
