2020 has undoubtedly been the unprecedented year for virtual reality. In other words, every and anything entertainment that avoided being cancelled is being moved to an online platform.
This year's Emmys award show will be no different as it was just announced that it will be completely virtual.
The announcement of the virtual ceremony comes just days after Emmy nominations were made public. The news of the virtual ceremony was broken to nominees via a letter addressed from the executive producers and host of this year's ceremony.
If you're a regular audience member of award shows, you probably feel like you’re missing out on putting people on the best and worst dressed list. Well, you may still get the chance to criticize Hollywood's actors and actresses.
In the letter addressed to the nominees – obtained by Variety – it stated that the Emmys will be “assembling a top notch team of technicians, producers and writers to work closely with Jimmy Kimmel and with you and your team, to make sure that we can film with you (and loved ones or whomever else you choose to be with) at your home, or another location of your choice. We’re going to make you look fabulous – we’re exploring the cutting edge of technology to allow to use good cameras and lighting and look forward to working with you to produce your unique “on screen” moments.”
However, the theme of the night is come as you are, but make an effort. So there really is no telling how Hollywood’s starlets will grace your television screens.
The Emmys will be aired on ABC on September 20.
