Activists, celebrities and protestors across the nation stand strong in the fight for justice for Breonna Taylor and continue to use their platforms to keep her story circulating. Oprah Winfrey is no different and has taken a slightly different approach at gaining recognition for Taylor’s story.
Oprah Magazine has decided to honor Taylor and her loved ones by making her the face of the magazine's September 2020 issue.
In Oprah Magazine's 20-year history, no one except for its creator – Oprah Winfery – has graced the cover.
“Breonna Taylor. She was just like me. She was just like you. And like everyone who dies unexpectedly, she had plans.” Winfrey said in an Instagram statement. “Plans for a future filled with responsibility and work and friends and laughter. I think about Breonna Taylor often.”
Winfrey continued by recapping the details surrounding Taylor’s death and emphasizing that we, as a people, must use all resources at our disposal to “cry for justice.”
The September issue of Oprah Magazine honors not only the life of the slain Louisville EMT, Breonna Taylor, but the “the life of every other Black woman whose life has been taken too soon.”
The September issue will be available August 11.
