NYC Adding COVID-19 Checkpoints On Bridges and Tunnels

New COVID-19 checkpoints will be set up at bridges and tunnels leading into New York City to enforce a quarantine order for people coming from states with high rates of Covid-19, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Wednesday. Many people have been traveling to and from New York City from hot spot states via car. As of right now there are no COVID-19 checkpoints when you enter a new state besides in some airports.

"Travelers coming in from those states will be given information about the quarantine, reminded that it is required and not optional," de Blasio said, adding that stiff fines can be levied against those who flout public health rules.

Checkpoints will be operation and policed by various law enforcement agencies within New York. The state of New York recently added Rhode Island to the list of “hot spot” states. While some were removed thanks to the decrease in COVID-19 cases.

"We need to ensure visitors and New Yorkers returning home are taking the necessary precautions," Sheriff Joseph Fucito said.
