Roc Nation Joins Forces With Brooklyn’s LIU To Launch New School

Jay-Z’s Roc Nation entertainment company is joining forces with Brooklyn’s Long Island University. The two are launching the Roc Nation School or Music, Sports and Entertainment.

This new school would begin enrollment for the new school in Fall 2021. 25% of incoming freshman will receive the Roc Nation Hope Scholarship allowing them to graduate without any debt. Degrees within the new school include music, music technology, sports management, production and entrepreneurship.

LIU President Dr. Kimberly Cline said in a statement, “Our proximity in and around New York City’s epicenter of music and sports clearly positions us to offer unparalleled experiential learning and access to professional opportunities that will launch students to success. We look forward to joining with Roc Nation to offer an unprecedented educational resource that opens up the entertainment and sports world to a new and eager generation.”

Since Roc Nation plays a huge part in the music industry, students will be able to engage with special guests and will gain hands-on experience through internships. Spring 2021 the school will expand its reach to students ages 10-18 with Saturday programs that focus on music and sports management and will launch summer residential camps for high schoolers. Scholarships will also be awarded to participants in these programs as well according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez called the new partnership with LIU “a true investment in our community and young people in Brooklyn, in New York City, and beyond. We’re excited that The Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment will provide unique insight, knowledge and experiences for students and introduce the world to the next generation of unmatched talent,” Perez continued in her statement Tuesday.
