#UNBLACK Summer: Harlem Edition

Alexa….play anything DIPSET because we are heading uptown babyyyyyy.

This week we are highlighting not one but TWO outstanding black businesses that will help contribute to your summer fun.

If you have a well developed food palate that will only allow you to eat fresh seafood, look no further because “The Lighthouse” in Harlem is your new go to spot! Whether it’s broiled, sautéed, or fried this restaurant can exceed all of your seafood expectations. My absolute favorite item on the menu is the stuffed lobster mac and cheese, which literally might taste like heaven on earth. There are so many ways to go wrong with seafood but “The Light House” never misses. It also offers a variety of delicious soul food including BBQ chicken, ribs, candied yams, and fried chicken. Correct me if I’m wrong but Lighthouse is the best seafood and soul food spot in Harlem.

Unfortunately, this restaurant only offers take out but if you’re anything like me, I love a good picnic. This spot is only blocks away from Saint Nicholas Park. So grab a blanket, some Uno cards and a Bluetooth speaker, which is always essential.

But while you are on your way to the park, you should plug “Mikey Likes It Ice Cream” into your GPS for a quick dessert. This ice cream parlor is also on Fredrick Douglas Boulevard and is owned by native New Yorker, Michael “Mikey” Cole. This creamery offers a variety of ice creams with quirky names such as Mac Daddy ( Half waffle ice cream sandwich with your choice of ice cream) and Ice Ice Mikey (A triple vanilla bean ice cream). Of course, there are also some Hip Hop inspired names including “The Foxy Brown,” “2 Live Crew,” and “Milli Vanilli.”

For my vegan folks, “Mikey Likes It Ice Cream” also has two vegan ice creams. One of which is inspired by the famous Afro- Honduran herbalist, Dr. Sebi. The “Eat to Heal” is made of Blueberry Hibiscus ice cream with a crushed pineapple and cayenne pepper swirl.

All in all, these two spots are a must try!

The Light House is located at 2451 Frederick Douglass Blvd, New York, NY 10027

Mikey Likes It Ice Cream has two locations, one at 2500 Frederick Douglass Blvd, New York, NY 10030 and the other in the Lower East Side, 199 Avenue A,NY, NY 10009
