New York Attorney General Aims To Dissolve NRA In New Law Suit

On Thursday New York Attorney General, Letitia James, issued a lawsuit against the National Rifle Association (NRA) with the intent to get the association disbanded. James argues that the NRA has used millions of dollars to fund their leader's personal life. A similar lawsuit against the NRA was filed by Washington, D. C’s attorney general.

The NRA, with an eye for an eye mentality, issued a countersuit against James. The NRA claims that James’ actions were politically motivated and violates their first amendment rights.

James’ lawsuit against the NRA claims that the leaders of the association have misused approximately $64 million in three years. Other accusations suggest the NRA violated state and federal law by signing off on fraudulent statements.

James wants the current CEO, Wayne LaPierre, to be removed from leadership as the lawsuit plays out in court. But not before he and three other current and former high-ranking members of the NRA pay back the misused money to the association.

James has special jurisdiction over the 148-year-old NRA being that they identify as a nonprofit.

The lawsuit filed by Attorney General Letitia James against the NRA as well as the NRA’s countersuit is expected to take several years to play out in court.
