The highest ranking woman in the White House has announced that she will be stepping down at the end of the month. Kellyanne Conway served as Senior counselor to the president and was a highly influential player in the Trump campaign, becoming the first female campaign manager to win a presidential race. Conway cites her desire to focus on her family life as the reason for her departure. In her official statement released Sunday night, Conway states: “This is completely my choice and my voice. In time I will announce my future plans. For now, and for my beloved children, it will be less drama and more mama.”
Like most in the Trump administration, Conway was as controversial as she was influential. Last year she was under fire for violating the Hatch Act. The Office of Special Counsel stated that Conway “violated the Hatch Act on numerous occasions by disparaging Democratic presidential candidates while speaking in her official capacity during television interviews and on social media.” Despite this finding, Conway faced no consequences from the president.
Perhaps the most interesting controversy comes from Conway's personal life. Kellyanne and her husband George, although both republicans - are known to have their own political differences. George Participated in the Lincoln project, a group spearheaded by anti-Trump republicans, that stood against Trump being re-elected. Conway shouldn’t have to worry about sparring at the dinner table any longer, as George too revealed that he is stepping away from the Lincoln project to focus on family matters.
Both of their decisions to step down from political positions, is more than likely a result of their most recent (and very public) family drama. Conway’s fifteen year old daughter Claudia took to her social media to announce that she’s seeking emancipation from her parents. The teen who has over 300 thousand twitter followers, went on an emotional rant about how disappointed she was that her mother would be speaking at the RNC. Possibly the most heartbreaking tweet of all, was when she stated that her parents' careers have ruined her life.
Take a look at some of Claudia’s tweets:
Looks like taking care of her crumbling family life was more important than trying to help Trump get re-elected. It’s going to be quite interesting to see how things work out for Trump’s campaign, especially without one of his most valuable assets from the 2016 elections.
