NFL Weekend Wrap-Up

In shocking news, the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens terminated seven-time Pro Bowl safety Earl Thomas III. In Sunday's press release the team stated: "We have terminated [safety] Earl Thomas' contract for personal conduct that adversely affected the Baltimore Ravens." Personal conduct that includes Thomas blowing a coverage assignment during practice with defensive back Chuck Clark.

Thomas, with a post and delete on Instagram, commented on his termination stating that it was “a mental error” on his part.

The teams’ coaches, John Harabaugh and Chris Hewitt, did not add much explanation during their press conference on Sunday. Both coaches insisted on moving the attention from Thomas and on to the future of the team. “You guys want to keep on talking about Earl Thomas; I think we already addressed that,” Hewitt said.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell wishes that he listened to Colin Kaepernick earlier when he began protesting the national anthem in 2016 during his appearance on Emmanuel Acho’s “Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man”.

Goodell also stated that Kaepernick- who has not played in the NFL since 2016 – was invited “several times” to talk. Goodell continued “I wish we had the benefit of that. We never did."

According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, 11 NFL teams had setbacks regarding COVID-19 testing. Pelissero tweeted a total of 77 tests processed by NFL testing partner, BioReference Laboratories, came back with false-positives. The executive chairman of BioReference Laboratories, Jon R. Cohen, M.D., stated that the false-positives were caused by an isolated contamination.

All 77 individuals were retested several times and tested negative for COVID-19. The false-positives resulted in several teams altering their training camp schedules, deep cleaning their facilities and temporary closure of facilities.

Former NFL player Herschel Walker endorsed Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention. Walker’s endorsement is based on their friendship that extends over three-and-a-half decades.

Walker - African American - drew the spotlight to himself after stating that he does not believe Donald Trump is a racist and he takes it as “a personal insult that people would think I would have a 37-year friendship with a racist... Growing up in the Deep South, I have seen racism up close. I know what it is. And it isn’t Donald Trump."
