In this day and age, social media is bringing a new kind of justice.
In June, a group of TikTokers filming near Duwamish Head shore spotted a large suitcase that washed ashore and opened it, the Seattle Times reported. After being met by a foul smell and a trash bag that hid the other contents of the suitcase the teens called the authorities.
Upon arrival, authorities searched the beach to discover a smaller duffel bag with smaller garbage bags inside. The contents of the bags were later identified as the human remains of Burien couple Jessica Lewis, 35, and Austin Wenner, 27.
The cause of death was later revealed as gunshot wounds. Wenner suffered a single gunshot wound and Lewis suffered multiple.
The investigation into the couple’s death led authorities to Michael Lee Dudley, 62, who was the couple’s landlord in Burien. Dudley was arrested last Wednesday and charged on Monday with two counts of second-degree murder. His bail is set at $5 million.
Authorities state that Dudley’s exact motives are still unclear although evidence shows that Dudley was angry with the couple for not paying rent and the alleged conduct of criminal activity inside his Burien home.
Dudley is expected to appear in court for arraignment Sept. 8.
