Ain’t That Funny: Social Media Drags J-Lo Over Poor Timing

During a global pandemic where millions of New Yorkers are out of work, struggling to make ends, there's speculation about whether or not the eviction pause will extend past October 1st, among many other terrible circumstances … you’d think that a proud New Yorker like Jennifer Lopez would be more mindful of what she complains about on social media. However, you thought wrong. Jenny took to social media on Friday to share that after months of negotiations, she and fiancé Alex Rodriguez lost the bid to buy the New York Mets. According to the New York Post, the couple we’re going to invest 300 million dollars of their own money into purchasing the franchise. Hedge fund billionaire Steve Cohen, is now back in the driver's seat as the highest bidder and most likely to be the next owner of the franchise.

Lopez shared: “Alex and I are so disappointed!!,” she continued “We worked so hard the past 6 months with the dream of becoming the first minority couple and the first woman owner to buy her father’s favorite Major League Baseball team with her own hard earned money. We still haven’t given up!!”

The disappointment comes after JLo spent the last week doing press with popular sports outlets like Barstool and boasting about how monumental it would be for Jennifer Lopez to become the first female and minority owner of an MLB team. The couple even got a VIP tour of Citi Field earlier this month.

Lopez posted this message shortly after news broke about the passing of actor Chadwick Boseman. Jennifer and her PR team’s inability to “read the room”, resulted in social media dragging J Lo by her “baby hairs” (see image below to understand this one). Thousands of outraged and grief stricken twitter and Instagram users swarmed the comments on JLo’s post, expressing how tasteless Jenny’s timing was. One tweet said “I love how you volunteered to be our emotional punching bag. Now that’s admirable”.

JLo quickly realized that people probably didn’t want to hear about her failed business venture during a time like this, and quickly posted a tribute to Chadwick on her social media platforms. Hopefully next time JLo’s PR team will get it right, and the superstar can keep her baby hairs intact.
