LA County Sheriff Challenges LeBron James To Match Reward For Police Shooting In Compton

September 15, 2020

This past weekend, two Los Angeles Sheriff deputies were shot. Police are calling the shooting an unprovoked attacked as the deputies were sitting inside of their patrol vehicles when they were attacked.

The two officers were on duty when they were randomly shot multiple times at Metro Rail Station in Compton.

With surveillance cameras being a big a phenomenon, there is surveillance footage that has captured the incident and you can briefly see the shooter.

Authorities are now offering a $175K reward for information leading to the arrest of the unknown suspect. On the deputies radio call the shooter was described as a dark-skinned male, between the age of 28-30, wearing dark clothing.

The LA County Sheriff, Alex Villanueva is asking LeBron James to match the $175k reward. After hearing LeBron speak about officer involved shootings, the Sheriff thought this was an opportunity to get the Lakers player involved.

“I want to make a challenge…to LeBron James,” said Villanueva said on Monday (September 14) during an interview. “I want you to match that and double that reward because I know you care about law enforcement... You expressed a very interesting statement on race relations and officer-involved shootings and the impact that it has on the African-American community and I appreciate that, but likewise, we need to appreciate that respect for life goes across professions, races, creeds, and I’d like to see LeBron James step up to the plate and double that.”

Was this a good idea?
