Donald Trump's “Platinum Plan” For Black Voters

This past Friday at a rally in Atlanta, President Donald Trump unveiled a plan to lock in African American voters just in time for Election Day. He’s calling it his “Platinum plan” for Black voters, and the primary selling point is securing more lending money to African American business owners. White House adviser Ja'Ron Smith explained the President’s goal is to have the federal government invest in institutions that can lend to Black business. Trump’s platinum plan boasts 3 million new jobs for the Black community, and creating 50,000 new Black-owned businesses.

Trump vowed to make Juneteenth a national holiday, and making lynching a hate crime. Things that should’ve been done before but simply sound better less than two months ahead of Election Day. Trump promised continued prosperity for Black Americans, opening the door for many opportunities that are a struggle to get. For example home ownership, access to broadband, developing easier pathways to credit and introducing school choice.

Another one of the biggest takeaways was the plan to designate both Antifa and the Ku Klux Klan as terrorist organizations. He had promised to do this since 2019, but now may finally be the time to get this done. Trump’s campaign has been pulling all the stops to court Black voters. Increasing federal funding for historically Black colleges, and signing on the First Step Act, a criminal reform bill.

Another promise from many years ago that was reiterated, was the plan for a national clemency project. Trump boasted about Alice Johnson, the women whom he and Kim Kardashian helped to free, however many feel as though clemency has only been offered to those with White House connections. It is unclear whether or not this will expand somehow to include everyone. Including those who don’t have high profile co-signs like Kim Kardashian.

Of course, some shots were thrown at Democratic nominee Joe Biden. Trump stated that no other person in politics has done more to harm African American people than Biden. “For decades, Democratic politicians like Joe Biden have taken black voters for granted,”

It is clear the majority of Black voters do not buy what Trump is selling this time around. According to AJC, a whopping 85% of Black voters claim to back Biden. Only 5% claim to be in support of Donald Trump.
