60 Minutes Host Receives Death Threat Over Trump Interview

CBS is beefing up security for “60 Minutes” correspondent Leslie Stahl, after one of her relatives received a death threat. The death threat stems from Stahl's tense interview with President Donald Trump, which resulted in him storming off the set. The President walked off the set due to what he felt was “unfair questioning” from Stahl.

The President has been vocal lately about unfair treatment from the press. He feels the press asks Joe Biden soft ball questions in comparison to the tough line of questioning he receives. He mentioned this on various recent appearances, from “60 Minutes” to his own town hall for CNBC which was moderated by Savannah Guthrie.

According to TMZ, an unidentified suspect called one of Stahl’s relatives in Los Angeles on Thursday. This takes place hours ahead of the President releasing his own version of the “60 Minutes” interview, ahead of the scheduled broadcast. CBS still released their version of the interview on Sunday night, including the follow up interview with Vice President Pence.

The caller threatened Stahl’s relative and the rest of her family. The caller allegedly made mention of “neo Nazis.” TMZ says CBS is providing around-the-clock security for Stahl and her family. Guards are watching their homes and escorting them through public spaces.

The “60 Minutes” tradition of interviewing presidents goes back decades. They have interviewed everyone from President George H.W Bush, to President Obama. None of those interviews have been quite as eventful as President Donald Trump’s.

Former president Barack Obama mocked Donald Trump’s “60 Minutes” interview at a Biden/Harris rally in Miami. Obama said: “It’s a good idea if you're running for re-election to say, here’s what I want to accomplish. What did Trump say? He got mad and walked out of the interview. The questions were too tough. Too tough?”
