Guns And Ammo Return To Walmart

Ammunition is making a comeback to Walmart stores. They were pulled following what they described as “isolated civil unrest” following the fatal shooting of Walter Wallace Jr.

Overnight chaos ensued, when 300 protestors took to the streets and seriously injured police officers. Walmart was among the stores that were destroyed and looted during the turmoil.

Walmart has made the decision to pull firearms several times over the course of the year. Back in June, they removed firearms and ammo after their stores were vandalized and looted in the wake of George Floyd’s death.

Walmart provided the following statement regarding their decision to bring guns back: “As the current incidents have remained geographically isolated, we have made the decision to begin returning these products to the sales floor today.”

Walmart has long been a mass gun retailer. However in recent history, they have experienced quite a few blunders. Ammunition for semi-automatic guns were completely pulled from Walmart, following a 2019 shooting at their El Paso Texas location, that left 23 people killed. It was only five years ago that Walmart raised the age requirement to purchase a rifle to 21-years old.

With violent crime on the rise in some states, Consumer demand for firearms has spiked. According to statistics from The National Shooting Sports Foundation, 12.1 million background checks for gun purchases from January through July. This is a 72% rise from last year.

Now more than ever, Americans are seeking gun ownership. Which is why Walmart CEO Doug McMillon is not looking to cave into the pressure and remove firearms from Walmart’s stock completely.
