Tesla Tequila: The April Fools Joke Gone Right


Say what you want about the CEO of SpaceX Elon Musk, but he is an absolute genius when it comes to bringing innovative ideas to life. In 2018, Musk first mentioned Tesla Tequila as an April Fools joke. Later that year, Tesla filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to trademark “Teslaquila.”

Today, it is sold out on Tesla Shop, at a hefty price point of $250.00.

The aptly named “Teslaquila” is styled in a lightning-bolt shaped bottle, equipped with a metallic stand that imitates the brand’s logo.

Tesla has sold its fair share of oddities in the past. Musk has sold anything from flamethrowers, surfboards and even red shorts. All of these novelty items have set social media ablaze. This sense of humor has become synonymous with Elon Musk’s brand.

Musk’s fun doesn't seem to have a negative impact on the company, this year Tesla shares have gone up 420%. The automaker reported “strong earnings” announcing record profit for the third quarter. Tesla is committed to the goal of selling 500,000 cars this year.

Why would a $250.00 bottle of Tequila sell out so fast? Simple, Elon Musk is one of the most popular CEOs in the world. Boasting 39.7 million social media followers.
