Black History Month Fast Facts: Vice President Kamala Harris

It’s February 1st, and we are kicking off Black History Month the right way. In honor of Black History Month, we will be sharing Black Excellence facts with you for the next 27 days!


First, we want to highlight America’s most prominent, beautiful, and intelligent Vice President, Kamala “We Did It Joe” Harris. Despite many false allegations from Donnie, President Joe Biden and VP Kamala Harris did, in fact, win the election fair and square. She was inaugurated on January 21, 2021.


Here are a few fast facts about Vice President Kamala Harris:


  • Kamala Devi Harris was born in Oakland, California on October 20, 1964

  • Kamala Means “Lotus” and is another name for the Hindu goddess Lakshmi and the empowerment of women

  • Kamala attended Howard University where she majored in political science and economics

  • She joined Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority while attending Howard University

  • In 1990, Kamala Harris passed the bar and joined the Alameda County prosecutors office in Oakland

  • In 2010, Kamala became the first female and African-American to be elected as Attorney General of California

  • Kamala Harris was elected Senator of California on January 3, 2017, making her the first African American Senator for California.

  • In 2019, she voted in favor of the Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act, which shut down websites such as Backpage.com that were allegedly promoting and selling sex from underage girls

  • During Kamala’s campaign trail she wore a string of pearls, which represents Alpha Kappa Alpha’s 20 founders and incorporators

  • On January 21, 2021, Kamala Harris was sworn in as the Vice President of the United States along with President Joe Biden
