Giannis Antetokounmpo Signs Largest Deal In NBA History

NBA’s "Greek Freak" Giannis Antetokounmpo just signed a multiyear extension with the Milwaukee Bucks. The $228 million extension is being described as the largest deal in NBA history.
According to CBS, this deal makes Giannis the highest-paid athlete in North American team sports in terms of average annual value. Every penny in this deal is guaranteed.
"This is my home, this is my city.. I'm blessed to be able to be a part of the Milwaukee Bucks for the next 5 years. Let's make these years count. The show goes on, let's get it," said the two-time NBA league MVP.
Antetokounmpo's agent, Alex Saratsis, told ESPN that the five-year deal will include an opt-out after the fourth year, 2025.
26 year-old Antetokounmpo would’ve been the hottest free agent on the market next summer, had he not signed this landmark deal.
Giannis has been with the team since the 2013 NBA draft, where he was chosen 15th overall by the Bucks.
He continued with a heartwarming message about his journey with the Milwaukee Bucks: "You took a chance on us eight years ago and now putting my signature on a contract like this is unreal."
Giannis had fans speculating what decision he would make regarding this major contract. He was given until December 21st to sign on the dotted line.
Antetokounmpo has led the Bucks to the best record in the league for two seasons in a row.
However, the bucks have not had the best of luck at the playoffs. They suffered back to back losses, first to the Toronto Raptors in the 2019 NBA playoffs and the Miami Heat in the 2020 NBA playoffs.
