Indya Moore Launches TranSanta, An Initiative Bringing Holiday Cheer To Trans Youth

'Pose' star Indya Moore is spreading holiday cheer to trans youth, with the launch of her new project TranSanta. TranSanta is a social media campaign that provides presents to trans kids most in need this holiday season.

The TranSanta social media page shared intimate letters from young trans people in unfortunate circumstances, like homelessness and those living in the foster care system that are unable to receive gifts. There are over 200 submissions from trans youth.

Moore cites her friend Chase Strangio, an attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union, as the inspiration behind this magical initiative. As the idea grew legs, the duo enlisted the help of friends to make it come to life.

"I didn't have a chimney growing up in the Bronx or in foster care, but I do have my community now. My friends and I want to make sure that trans kids feel like they are a gift to this world because they are. Acceptance and love are gifts we all deserve all year." Says India Moore in an Instagram video.

Users can then select a child to be taken to a Target registry with their wish list. These kids just want the typical gifts that bring children joy on Christmas day. Anything from a cozy sweater, a tablet pen, to a basketball. These are just a few of the items that make up some of the wish lists.

Earlier this year, Moore raised $20,000 for pandemic relief to 400 LGBTQ people of color.

Indya Moore is providing a light for the trans community, during a year that has been particularly brutal for them. At least 40 transgender or gender-nonconforming people have been killed in 2020, the majority of them Black or Latino, according to to the Human Rights Campaign. 350 transgender and gender-diverse people were reported killed world-wide, according to data from the Trans Murder Monitoring project.
