Polo G Secures First Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 With Debut of 'Rapstar'

Polo G is celebrating a massive win with his new track, “RAPSTAR.” On Monday (April 19), Billboard stated Polo G is entering the Hot 100 at the No. 1 spot, thanks to his new single.
On April 9, the Chicago lyricist released the official “RAPSTAR” video, which Arrad directs, and finds Polo G reflecting on the ups and downs of being a Hip Hop main act. Polo G uses many scenes to show his everyday life as Hip Hop’s most prominent stars in the video. He buys high-priced luxury cars, shuts down a clothing store, flies on a private G4 jet, and even gets drafted into a fictitious Hip Hop Hall of Fame for his contributions to the culture.
Polo G charting the Billboard Hot 100 chart doesn’t come as a surprise in the slightest. “RAPSTAR” collected over 53.6 million U.S. streams and sold 5,300 downloads in its first week, according to MRC Data reports. It also attracted 844,000 radio airplay audience impressions in its opening week. Within its first 24 hours, the music video for “RAPSTAR” was the No. 1 trending on YouTube.
The song isn’t just Polo G’s first No. 1 single. “RAPSTAR” is the first No. 1 song from a Chicago rapper since Chance The Rapper appeared on DJ Khaled’s 2017 “I’m The One.” Polo G is also the first rapper from Chicago to be the lead artist on a No. 1 song since Kanye West did so in 2007 with “Stronger.”
“RAPSTAR” is Polo G’s latest single since his guest verses on his collaborative track “Fashion” with the late Pop Smoke featured on the Boogie: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and “Richer” with Rod Wave in March. Polo G’s last solo single, “GNF (OKOKOK),” came in February. Fans are waiting for his upcoming album Hall of Fame to release later this year.
