Reality TV Star Facing New Charges in Child Pornography Case

Cheers star Jerry Harris is facing seven new charges in his child pornography case. The 21-year-old reality star was charged with one count of producing child pornography — and now with receiving and attempting to receive child pornography and four counts of using, persuading, inducing and enticing a minor "to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a visual depiction of such conduct."

Jerry Harris used his influence to not only solicit photographs from minors over the internet, but at cheer competitions as well. According to the September indictment, he was accused of repeatedly soliciting oral sex at cheerleading competitions.

One of Harris’s victims was a 13-year old boy, who he repeatedly enticed to produce sexually explicit videos and photographs of himself, and send them to Harris.

Upon raiding Harris' Naperville home in September, Harris admitted to the FBI that he knowingly solicited obscene photos of the little boy, despite knowing his age. Harris’s criminal activity involving minors spans across two years, with several other victims. He allegedly offered these victims money for explicit photographs. He also admitted to the FBI that he made attempts to meet these underage victims, to engage in sexual activity.

Harris’s experience with the limelight has only been brief. The Emmy-Award winning Cheer series had only just premiered in January. Harris became a fan favorite from the show, due to his positive attitude and encouraging words. His role took him to the Academy Awards earlier this year, where he interviewed celebrities for The Ellen Show.

Just as fast as his star rises, is as fast as his star would fall. Harris has been held in a federal detention facility without bond since his September arrest and the judge had subsequently labeled Harris a public danger should he be released from custody.

Production of child pornography is punishable by a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum of 30 years. Harris is set to go before a judge in the coming weeks.
