Two men arrested for drugging, raping women later found deceased in South Beach hotel

According to police reports, two North Carolina men visiting South Beach have been accused and arrested for drugging and raping a woman who later died in her hotel room.

The two suspects, Evoire Collier, 21, and Dorian Taylor, 24, are additionally accused of stealing the woman's credit cards to spend money on their expenses to South Beach. Detectives are trying to conclude whether the woman died of an overdose, possibly from a pill the men provided. Miami-Dade Medical Examiner's Office stated that it is carrying out further tests, and no cause of death has been decided.

The arrests come as Miami Beach police and city officials have been fighting with the overwhelming spring break crowds, initiating an 8 p.m. curfew aimed at cracking down on unruly revelers on the streets. In recent weeks, South Beach has seen fights, crowd stampedes, and police confrontations requiring the use of pepper-balls.

According to the department, Miami's police have made over 1,000 arrests since February alone, and at least five officers have been injured on the job.

The charges Taylor and Collier face are far more severe: burglary with battery, petty theft, sexual battery, and the crooked use of a credit card. If the pill they gave her is proven to have played a role in her death, the men could face a murder charge or manslaughter charge.

The victim was a 24-year-old woman visiting from Pennsylvania and was staying at the Albion Hotel.

Both men, who are from Greensboro, North Carolina, were booked into a Miami-Dade jail on Sunday, records show.

On Monday afternoon, prosecutor Ayana Duncan said the men should be detained in jail before trial because they could face even more severe charges depending on the death investigation results.

Miami-Dade Judge Mindy Glazer agreed and also expressed alarm about the allegations. "He couldn't even pick up the phone to call police or 911 after they did whatever it is they did to her," Glazer said.
