Now is the time to start thinking about how you eat. Two large-scale studies link overconsumption of “ultra-processed foods” to an increased risk of a number of ailments, including obesity, cancer, cardiovascular disease, early death, and more, according to PopSci.
Ultra-processed include soda, microwave meals, baked goods, sugary cereals, and so much more. These items usually contain a high amount of added sugar and preservatives.
“We found an inverse association between ultra-processed dairy foods like yogurt and colorectal cancer risk among women,” said co-senior author Fang Fang Zhang, a cancer epidemiologist and interim chair of the Division of Nutrition Epidemiology and Data Science at the Friedman School, in a press release.
