Viola Davis Set To Take On A Big Role And She's Nervous About It

The world is still buzzing over Viola Davis’ block buster performance as Gertrude "Ma" Rainey, in Netflix’s Ma “Rainey's Black Bottom.” For Viola, she’s already on to the next icon she’s going to become for a film. Her next role will be Michelle Obama in the upcoming Showtime anthology series “First Ladies.” Davis will also serve as executive producer for this project.

Showtime explained: “In the East Wing of the White House, many of history’s most impactful and world-changing decisions have been hidden from view, made by America's charismatic, complex and dynamic first ladies. This series will peel back the curtain on the personal and political lives of these enigmatic women, with season one focusing on Eleanor Roosevelt, Betty Ford and Michelle Obama.”

Viola is an established actress with Academy awards to prove it, but the 51-year old actress is apparently nervous for this gig. She stopped by The Graham Norton Show and revealed that she had some trepidation in taking this role.

Viola stated: "People love Michelle Obama. They feel like they know her, they own her — and they do not want anything that is negative to touch her."

Davis explained that former First Lady Michelle Obama is supporting her decision to take on this role.

"Listen, everything you think, feel, see with Michelle Obama is all that she is," Davis said. "We know that. But I always say, 'You can talk to my husband, you can talk to my daughter, you can talk to my mom about me' — if someone were going to play me in a biopic — 'but you would still only know 40 or 50 percent of me.”

At this time, there is very limited information regarding the “First Ladies” series. However, we know Viola is going to slay this role - in typical Viola Davis fashion.
