(Compton Av on set of his video shoot)

Mainstream media has dedicated its latest attention to West Coast rappers in the last few years. Before this decade in my opinion many California artist struggled with maintaining longevity in the Hip-Hop industry. Rap artist like YG, Saweetie, Blueface, and the late Nipsey Hussle have all given us a piece of what its like growing up in the west coast.

Compton Av is no different, his music can be described as storytelling or history in the making. During our interview, we asked what was the most traumatic experience he encountered and for him it was difficult to recall. The normalcy of drive-by shooting was all too familiar to him. "I never shared this on an interview, but I saved a girl during a drive-by, in the middle of me dodging the bullets I saw her still in shock by the shooting. I grabbed her and kept running" Being called a hero is out of his vocabulary but the experience is not far from his memory.
